Caught Offside is reporting that Manchester United will make a bid for Lyon wing back Michel Bastos in January. The Brazilian joined Olympique Lyon on the 15th July 2009 for 18 Million Euro. In his first season at the club he scored 15 goals and created 4 goals, in 47 matches. His favourite playing number is 11, currently vacated by veteran Ryan Giggs at Manchester United. During his profe sional career, Michel Bastos played for Feyenoord (did not make an appearance), Excelsior, Atletico Paranaense, Gremio, Figueirense, and Lille, before joining Lyon. Olympique Lyon have started the 2010/11 season shockingly bad, winning only 2 and drawing another two out of their opening Bradley Blalock Jersey 8 matches. They even have a negative goal difference standing at minus 4. Michel Bastos is currently 27 years old and his first season at the club has reportedly alerted Sir Alex Ferguson to scout the player. He is a set piece specialist who would supply United with more goals from set-pieces. A chance to play for Manchester United does not present itself every day, and reports are stating that Bastos would be ready to make the move to England and out of the crisis at Lyon. Manchester United would not get him for a cheap price and they will have to pay at least the 16 million Lyon paid Lille for his signature in 2009, po sibly even rising above 20 million.
