Meta descriptions keep getting rewritten, anyone else?
I wrote careful meta descriptions for about thirty pages, and Google replaced a good chunk of them with random body text. It was frustrating, since I’d spent real time on the wording.
I’ve been building tags with a meta tag generator to keep lengths in range and the wording tight. The rewrite rate seems lower on pages where the description matches the search intent closely. It’s a small sample, so I won’t claim a rule.
Has anyone noticed a pattern in when Google rewrites descriptions? I’m trying to decide if it’s worth polishing them on older posts or only on the money pages. What’s your approach to prioritizing?
