When a boiler won’t turn on, check four things in order: the thermostat, the power switch and breaker, the fuel supply, and the pressure gauge. Press the reset button no more than once. If you smell gas, see smoke, or hear a carbon monoxide alarm, skip every check, leave the house, and call 911 from outside. Anything beyond these basics belongs to a licensed technician.
